Finnish Independence Day

Today, 6th of December, Finland has the 93th birthdayparty. Today is usually the day when my mum puts all the Christmas lights by the windows and outside on the trees and by the door. This day is usually the day when we drive down to see my godparents in Rauma. My godmother had made a really good meal for us every year. Usually this day is really snowy and we drive back home in a blizzard just in time to see a party in Presidents castle in Helsinki.

It is the dullest tv-program you ever could imagine. All the members of parliaments, ministers, important persons, veterans and celebrities walk on a red carpet and shake hands with the president Tarja Halonen and her husband. After that we can watch when all the guests are eating and what they are eating and then the dancing begins. Presindent has the first dance with her husband and after that everybody is dancing. Of course there is also some interviews. Nevertheless, every year this has the most viewers. Last year about 2.2 million people were watching this and it is a lot because Finlands population is only about 5 million. In my opinion the only interesting part is female guests dresses.

What are my thoughts about my homeland Finland? Every year we needed to write an essey about this question at school. Every year. I think Finland is the best country in the world. Everything is so good in there. Education system is one of the bests in the world, healthcare is good, democracy works etc...Nature is beautiful in the summer but also in the winter. Finnish people are very nice and friendly if you manage to get them to speak first. I'm proud of being Finnish.

Today I had a different Independence Day. We don't have any snow here anymore and sun was shining all day. It felt almost like a spring day. I have lost my Christmas-feeling. It melted along with the snow.

Kerroin vaan, mikä päivä tänään on. ( Tämä niille (äiti), jotka ei ymmärrä ;D)
